A CRY FOR A NEW LIBERATION Dr. Jaime Rangel

Much water has flown down the Mandovi and the Zuari and for the matter sown the Tiracol River since that day in late 1961, when the last colonial power in India left the shores of the land we call Goa. It was December the 19th. a date that will remain etched in the pages of Goa's history. It provoked certain fears, again expectedly so. But through this churning as one would expect during any political upheaval, a new beginning was sought to be made, a beginning that purportedly, would make Goa a better place for Goas to live in. But a little over fifty years later, these hopes have been belied and the old fears have come back rushing in. Goa finds itself, and by inference, Goans find themselves at the crossroads of another upheaval, this time not just political, but a social and religious one.

It is this churning, in which we find ourselves, that we must aim for and achieve a new liberation. And it is in this season of prayer that we have to cry out for this new liberation from the forces of destruction who will betray Goa for thirty pieces of silver. The cry for a new liberation cannot remain a cry in the wilderness. That voice needs to be heard before the Goa we know and love is turned into a wilderness of greed, of corruption, of fear, of vice, of debauchery, of filth, of intolerance, of obscurantism, of crime and of criminals. These voices have to grow louder and stronger and not allowed to be drowned by those who have a strong vested interest in promoting the worst elements of humanity and human nature.

The first cry goes out asking for a total change in the type of individuals that we elect to be the people’s representatives. It is here that the road to degradation commences and it is here that we have to focus our greatest attention. For if you curtail the rot that starts from the top, the succeeding layers of administrative bureaucracy will filter out the bad apples that dominate these layers. A good individual here and there finds it difficult to survive in this milleu, let alone fighting back. In such a situation, a single swallow does not a summer make. We have to drive this political-bureaucratic structure to work for the needs of the people and not the fulfilment of their greed.

The Goa of today cries out for freedom from fear, a freedom that allows every citizen to express oneself without being threatened by violence, a freedom that will not tolerate any group indulging in threatening and violent postures against their fellow citizens. It cries for a proper direction to the directionless social manoeuvring that is a feature of life in this state.

It calls for an open society, open to the flow of ideas, an open society that openly battles the forces of the narcotic world and their godfathers among the ppwers-that-be. It cries out for a people free from the stranglehold of drugs, the vices of gambling and alcoholism, the scourge of garbage and filth, the fear of murders and robberies and the sick wold of sex slavery and paedophilia.

We have no choice but to cling dearly to the communal harmony that has been a shining beacon of our state in the otherwise dark recesses of communal violence that envelopes this nation from time to time. We cannot allow individuals with any intolerant or obscurantist agenda to hijack the social and religious discourse in the state of Goa. The bonds between the various communities in Goa go far deeper than the superficiality of television sound bytes. We have an urgent need to be liberated from the sinister designs of such forces whose sole aim is to work towards polarisation of religious communities.

I cry for a new liberation where the prime reason decisions are taken is for the betterment of the inhabitants of Goa. For if the tourists, the industrialists, the fly-by-night operators and the middlemen are the focus where the political-bureaucratic class demands its pound of flesh, then this society is on the way to collapse.

When Goans become second-class citizens in their own land, is when the cries for a new liberation will get louder. We have no choice.  For else, Goa may run out of further liberations. The Goa that was saved at the Opinion Poll on the 16th of January 1967 may just about disappear in the future, destroyed by its own leaders and their comrades-in-arms. We cannot allow that to happen.

NOW, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, GOANS, PLEASE CONTRAST THIS WRITE-UP BY THE VERY SAME AUTHOR OF THE ABOVE TO FIND YOUR BALANCE ON HIS CONSISTENCY, IF THERE IS ANY. YOU ARE THE BOSS. YOU DECIDE.

CRIMINALS DURING INVASION OF GOA By A. Veronica Fernandes

On today’s date, 18th December, in 1961 at about 10.00 PM when it was realized that invasion of Goa is going to be a reality on the next day, some criminal “Bastards” from Candolim in a group of around 8 persons, all males, came with Guns to kill the prominent village personality Dr. Gustavo Monteiro. They projected themselves as pro-Bharati and Dr. Monteiro as pro-Portuguese.

The first thing they did was to fire gun shots about 40-50 on the door of Dr. Monteiro.  This door helped Dr. Monteiro and his family as barricade from the onslaught of the gunshots from the criminals, the so called freedom fighters and also the so called pro-Bharatis from Candolim only and who earlier enjoyed many benefits from the Potuguese government of Goa thru the goodwill of Dr. Monteiro. If the door of the house was not closed immediately, there would be a blood bath in the house of Dr. Monteiro.
These so called pro-Bharati Freedom Fighters thought they will be the rulers of the village and Goa.  But as a matter of fact, in the invaded Goa under Bharati Raj they suffered too much in the life, all of them died miserable deaths, their children faced worst of difficulties in their life and their houses also collapsed without keeping any traces.

These so called pro-Bharati Goans had no liking for Bharati rule but they had the liking for their personal vendetta which they tried to acquire. Though they succeeded in some cases but failed in case of Dr. Gustavo Monteiro.

Similary, they also failed to finish Fr. Mendonca the Principal of Arpora School when they came to kill him at Arpora taking advantage of the invasion of Goa.  But sensing some tragic outcome, Fr. Mendonca fled from Arpora School and took shelter in Bastora at Nuns’ Convent thereby dodging his killers.

There must be more such incidents in Goa during the invasion period of Goa.  Those who are aware of such incidents they must share with others so that posterity knows what has happened to some sons of Goa in the process of invasion of Goa by Nehru’s Bharat.

ON 19TH DECEMBER 1961, GOA WAS NOT LIBERATED BUT INVADED AGAINST THE WISHES OF MAJORITY OF GOANS. I WANTED PORTUGUESE OUT FROM MY BELEVOED GOA  BUT DEFFINETELY NOT THE BHARATI RAJ IN GOA.  BHRATI RAJ IS A RAJ OF FILTH – CORRUPTION – CHOR – LOOTERS AND BAD GOVERNANCE. I WAS MADE BHARATI CITIZEN NOT BY MY CHOICE BUT BY FORCE BY THE BHARATI GOVERNMENT HEADED BY THE DICTATOR NEHRU WHO WITHOUT TAKING US INTO CONFIDENCE INVADED GOA.

INDIAN NAVY GRABING GOA'S LAND IN THE NAME OF FAKE TERRORISTS ATTACK ALERTS by Menino Fernandes

Indian Navy Grabbing Goa’s Land In The Name Of Fake Terrorist Attack Alerts by Menino Fernandes
Till date there was no terrorist attack on Goa’s soil. Goa police have not reported any suspicion, intelligence have not reported any sign of impending terrorist attack from, within or surrounding Goa. It is very much evident that the Indian navy is only hallucinating or are trying to impress the central communal BJP government of such an imaginary attack, which will never materialise. The Indian navy does so only with the intention of grabbing as much land as possible of Goa for their own luxuries and to build for themselves resorts where the navy personnel can enjoy their lives.

To add to this they now have our rogue Manohar Parrikar as the defence minister who the navy knows very well, would realise their dream of more paradises by creating hoax terrorist attacks along Goan borders.

Ever since the invasion and illegal occupation of Goa by the Indians, there never has been any danger or any signs of any terrorist attack, since the last 50 years so the question of a terrorist attack is a farce created by Indian navy. In fact the Indian navy should be termed as a kind of terrorist organisation itself that is out to loot Goa’s land for their luxuries. Goans cannot be expecting any more any support from the communalist Narendra Modi the current prime minister of India.

The lame excuse of a fake terrorist attack is created by the Indian navy since long back. The police/intelligence are silent and have never at any time uttered any nonsense of any impending attack on Goa or surrounding area.

Where was the indian navy sleeping during the Bombay attacks? Why didn’t the Indian navy take any active part in fighting the terrorists who attacked the Taj hotel in Bombay on 26/11? It was the brave Bombay police who acted and sacrificed themselves to save Bombay from the terrorist attacks of which Ajmal Kasab was a part. The Indian navy was busy enjoying themselves in Goa and other places when they should have been at the centre of the attack trying to thwart the Bombay attack.

The Indian navy acted like Eunuchs during the Bombay attacks. But this very Indian navy are acting the terrorists in Goa and are busy in their devilish plans of grabbing over Goan islands in the name of fake terrorism. These eunuchs could do nothing during the Bombay attacks like said above. They were busy having XXX RUM during these attacks. Neither the army was seen in the scene. The prime task of fighting the terrorists should have been of the Indian army and the navy and not the police as it was an external terrorism from another country. This was the case of sovereignty of India which was at stake and albeit to defend it was the prime duty of the Indian navy and army.

Looting Goan land has been the main task of Indian navy and that too with a fake excuse which would not be acceptable not only to the Goans but to any other country. Terrorist attacks in or around Goa is unimaginable as it never happened for last 50 years.

However now the Indian navy is capable of creating a fake terrorist attack just to grab the islands which they have eyed for so long. We the Goans have no hope or support from the centre as the BJP is communal and we have the snake in the grass Manohar Parrikar there as a defective minister who looks after the defence of India. This snake is now become a bigger threat to Goan land as he is the boss and master of the navy and army as well.

As long as Goa does not have its own party ruling them, it would be very difficult to keep in control villains like Manohar Parrikar and the Indian navy. To save our Goa and its land from being looted we need to get a Goan party to power. We have to do so before a fake terrorist attack really takes place on Goan soil and Goa is reduced to size. We have to give up our greed for money that we take to vote the rogues to power. Vote for honest party or honest independent candidates and form an honest government at our very root level that is the only way we can save our Goa.

I would also request Floriano Lobo to come out on the streets and hard against all the evil that is taking place in Goa and show courage to tackle the crooks. Floriano and Goa Su-Raj Party is made up of honest members but it needs to be out on the street. GSRP must now be fiery party and fiercely attack all the evil. With its excellent road map and constitution, it can be a party to reckon with. But now it the time to come out in public. I hope Mr. Floriano Lobo is listening to the voice of the Goans. We would be proud of you and GSRP once it starts taking initiatives and would really be proud to be its Goodwill Ambassadors. As for me, I am looking forward to work for the Goans through GSRP. The up lifting of Goans and mother Goa is our MUKHEL HETU (principle). Saving of Mother Goa is and should be our main and primary objective.

So dear Goans let us unite and save the looting of our land and islands by the Indian navy.

ARE WE BETTER OFF AFTER LIBERATION ? by Arwin Mesquita, Colva

Are We Better Off After Liberation? by Arwin Mesquita, Colva
I appreciate that although not impossible, it is a challenge today to put in measures for protecting Goan demographics, identity, land and our way of life. This challenge is mainly because of the perceived restrictions by the Indian Constitution, which was officially never approved by Goans and opinions given by pessimists.

However, before we even try to look at measures to protect Goa’s interests, we first need to, at least, publicly acknowledge and get the Central government to acknowledge that there were serious flaws in the manner Goa was absorbed into the Indian Union without any safeguards. Such acknowledgement can help look at possible remedial measures. Post- 1961, Goa could have progressed within India into a world class state with a special identity. Unfortunately, due to the mistakes we made at Liberation, Goa is actually going backwards. All of us Goans instead of simply celebrating the Liberation, should ask ourselves what are we actually celebrating?
